Established during lockdown and with a track record of success, LIVE (Live music Industry, Venues
and Entertainment) is now looking for its first Chair to help take our work to the next level. The
voice of the UK’s live music and entertainment business, LIVE is a federation of 15 industry
associations representing 3,150 businesses, over 4,000 artists and 2,000 backstage workers.
LIVE works to ensure that the interests of live music (from grassroots to the biggest businesses in our
sector) are effectively communicated to Government, policymakers, regulators, the public and the
wider music and entertainment industries. Through collective representation, LIVE promotes the
interests of artists, venues, festivals, promoters, booking agents, ticketing agents, crew, technology
and production suppliers.
We are now looking for someone who can represent LIVE and support the executive at a range of
external meetings, offer public comments for LIVE’s media work and chair our quarterly board
meetings. Our ideal candidate will be a figure of national standing and credibility in live music with a
deep understanding of the sector and a balanced approach to live music issues reflective of LIVE’s
role representing a diverse range of organisations.
Background
LIVE was established in response to lockdown and a recognition of the need for the UK live music industry to more effectively organise, and speak with one voice to Government wherever possible.
LIVE (Live music Industry Venues & Entertainment) is the voice of the UK’s live music and entertainment business. LIVE members are a federation of 15 industry associations representing 3,150 businesses, over 4,000 artists and 2,000 backstage workers.

Having successfully mobilised the industry, supply chain and music lovers in a campaign to secure critical funding, LIVE then developed activities across a number of expert group workstreams:
LIVE Festivals: an opportunity for all across the UK festival industry to engage in dialogue with Government.
LIVE Green: working to deliver LIVE’s net-zero pledge through information sharing, practical steps and operational changes.
LIVE Touring: a truly expert group tackling the current challenges of touring across the EU and beyond.
LIVE Venues: bringing together venue operators from grassroots, through mid-cap and concert halls and on to arenas with a common focus on delivering world-class, safe and sustainable experiences.
LIVE Workforce: using a people focus and the breadth of LIVE’s network to address equality, diversity & inclusion challenges.
In addition, LIVE will put together expert groups to support our work in other areas e.g. the planned protect duty legislation stemming from the Manchester Arena Inquiry.
After appointing a Chief Executive in April 2022, LIVE is now search for an individual to lead its board during this exciting time for the organisation’s growth and development.
Role Specification
The Chair will:
- Chair LIVE board meetings: the Board is scheduled to meet four times a year and meetings normally last no longer than two hours;
- Liaise as appropriate with the executive, providing insight and guidance on both internal organisational matters and external communications and policy work;
- Represent LIVE and support the executive at a range of external meetings – MP briefings, evidence hearings and informal networking opportunities;
- Give public comments for LIVE press releases;
- Provide a short Chair’s address at an annual LIVE event and in the annual report.
Person Specification
The successful candidate will:
- Be a figure with a national reputation of standing and credibility in live music;
- Be experienced at chairing meetings, drawing out differing views and guiding the discussion to an agreed conclusion;
- Have an understanding of the UK live music sector, its history, standing and current challenges/opportunities;
- Have a balanced approach to live music issues reflective of LIVE’s role representing a diverse range of organisations drawn from across the sector;
- Have excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
Terms and Conditions
The Chair will be appointed for a three-year term, renewable for a further three years by mutual agreement.
An honorarium, currently set at £5,000 per annum, is paid, as are reasonable travel and other out-of-pocket expenses. The Chair is personally responsible for any tax and other liabilities.
